Its meaning is given as “to abstain” or “to wean,” and also as “chaste,” “the perfect woman,” or “nurse.” Fatima is counted among the four perfect women in Islam, and Christians know it as the Portuguese town where children reported a vision of the Virgin Mary in 1917. Long common in Muslim families abroad, Fatima has recently become more popular in the United States.
