Victoria
Featured in baby name books
Victoria is a Latin name meaning “victory” or “victorious,” the feminine form of Victor and the name of the Roman goddess of victory. The name has a regal air thanks to Queen Victoria, and it offers many nicknames, including Tori, Vicky, and Ria. Common in the early Roman Empire, the name was adopted by early Christians, faded, revived with Queen Victoria, and returned again in the 1940s. Victoria Woodhull was a businesswoman and activist who started the first female-run newspaper in the U.S. and the first female-owned brokerage firm.
